If ever there was a time to give up watching football and just stick to playing poker this is it. My poker has been going in an exact opposite direction to that of the England football team - whilst they look laboured and disinterested my poker has been bright and inventive. I’ve lost some big pots on the way when trying to be a little over fancy but it’s certainly been more interesting than watching the football.
England look wound up and with so much pressure on them going into the final group game on Wednesday they’re going to need a spark to break them out of their current trough. That spark is unlikely to come from any of the players we have seen moping about the pitch so far unless Wayne Rooney realises that eating baked beans in a caravan is exactly where he is headed if he doesn’t sort his head out.
Joe Cole can be the player to inject some life into this England team. He has an effervescent character that rubs off on other people and you can guarantee he will play with a smile on his face. He also has the ability to unlock a defence in a split second and can provide something genuinely different to a side struggling for confidence, rhythm and most importantly goals.
I watched the Algeria game whilst playing online poker as I was in a tournament that seemed to drag on and on.
